Report: WWE To Possibly Move NXT To FS1 To Counter AEW TV

It has been reported that All Elite Wrestling’s weekly two-hour TV show on TNT will air on either a Tuesday or Wednesday night. The rumours were exemplified when it emerged that the new promotion had recently filed to trademark “Wednesday Night Dynamite”.

If the rumours are to be believed, then AEW TV will not be filling the void that Smackdown leaves behind when it ditches Tuesdays for Fridays on FOX come October 2019. Instead, Tony Khan’s promotion’s TV show will go head-to-head with NXT.

It was reported several months ago that there were talks between FOX and WWE to move NXT from the WWE Network to FS1 in late 2019. However, very little has followed the initial report.

However, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Radio has said that he wouldn’t be surprised to see Vince McMahon decide to stick NXT on FS1 to counter AEW.

“I think that’s the logical move, yes. I believe Vince will do that. I don’t know that he’s doing it, but thinking like Vince I believe that’s what he’ll do.”

While Meltzer is not reporting anything right now, he is right in the sense that it would be a logical move and something that Vince McMahon and other WWE higher-ups are surely considering.

Many of the fans who like the style of wrestling that AEW will offer should likely also be fans of the NXT product. Also, giving NXT a bigger platform on TV will only help draw eyes to the product and make it feel more like a third brand as opposed to a developmental one.

If NXT does move to FS1 to rival AEW’s new TV show, then Wednesday nights could become the hottest night for wrestling fans across the globe.
