Report: WWE Waiting For Approval From Saudi Arabia For Women’s Match At Super ShowDown

It was reported earlier today that along with Renee Young who will be commentating on the show, Natalya and Alexa Bliss will be joining the men’s portion of the WWE roster for their Super ShowDown event Saudi Arabia on Friday.

Young is the only woman to be involved in any of WWE’s previous two shows in Saudi Arabia, with no women’s matches being featured at either the Greatest Royal Rumble or Crown Jewel.

Their exact involvement at the upcoming show was not known, but a report later emerged suggesting that “months ago”, WWE planned to have Natalya take on Nia Jax in Saudi Arabia, but plans changed when Jax was ruled out with an injury. The assumption is that both women were chosen as their respective wrestling gear covers most of their bodies.

This report caused some to speculate that WWE is going to have Bliss take Jax’s place and face Natalya at WWE Super ShowDown on Friday in what would be the first women’s wrestling match ever to take place in the country.

However, others suggested that Vince McMahon’s company would have hyped up the match more, especially considering its significance. This, in the eyes of some, made it unlikely that the two former Smackdown Women’s Champions would be fighting at the show.

However, Pro Wrestling Sheet is reporting that according to their sources, WWE does want to have Natalya and Alexa Bliss wrestle on the show, and have been in talks with the Saudi Arabian General Sports Authority for a number of months in order to be granted permission for the match to take place.

The reason that the match has not yet been announced with the show taking place in just under two days is WWE has not yet received approval from the powers that be. It should also be noted that there is no official word on whether or not they are likely to give Vince McMahon the green light.

However, the report does suggest that Alexa Bliss and Natalya will be the two women chosen to fight if permission is granted, and have made the trip as a result.

This is a big step for WWE and Saudi Arabia, and in April 2018, the Saudi General Sports Authority was forced to official apologise after images of members of WWE’s women’s roster with their skin showing were shown at the Greatest Royal Rumble.

If WWE is given the all clear and permission is allowed for Bliss and Natalya to wrestle, the two Raw stars will be expected to change up their wrestling gear and wear body suits. This would be similar to the attire that Alexa Bliss and Sasha Banks donned two years ago when they wrestled for the Raw Women’s Championship for the first time in Abu Dhabi.

WrestleTalk will provide more information on the situation if and when it becomes available in the build-up to the show.
