Retired WWE Star Wants Return Match with John Cena

Retired WWE Star Wants Return Match with John Cena WWE

A retired WWE star has admitted he wants to face John Cena one last time before the 16-time world champion hangs up his boots.

With John Cena’s 2025 WWE Farewell Tour kicking off on the Raw on Netflix premiere, many current stars and those from Cena’s past have come forward to throw their name in the hat for a match.

Cody Rhodes, Nic Nemeth, CM Punk, Logan Paul are a small selection of names that have pitched to face Cena in 2025, but now it seems we can add a Hall of Famer to that list also.

Speaking on Something to Wrestle, John Bradshaw Layfield spoke openly about wanting another crack at Cena inside a WWE ring, while admitting it’s unlikely to actually happen.

JBL said:

“Of course. Yeah, because I think the world of John and I was so happy that I was part of John’s, formative career. I, again, I don’t take any credit for anything. John did. John would be exactly where he is now with or without me. I’m just glad that I was one of the ones that was there at the start.

“But John’s such a great guy. I mean, everything about him. I mean, the more you know about John, from his Make-A-Wish, what he does, to how he interacts with fans, to how he interacts with talent, what he’s done for talent. I mean, it’s just amazing.

“It’s not going to happen, by the way. There’s no absolutely zero talk of it.”

Cena famously defeated JBL at WrestleMania 21 in 2005 to win his first of his 16 WWE World Championships, with the pair feuding once again in 2008.

JBL has been appearing in wrestling promotions outside of WWE lately, including TNA, of whom are now in an official multi-year partnership with.
