Rey Misterio Sr. Passes Away Twitter

Miguel Ángel López Díaz, better known to wrestling fans as Rey Misterio Sr. – the uncle of WWE star Rey Mysterio – has now passed away.

The news of his passing was announced by Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide on December 20, with the promotion taking to Twitter to share a tribute to the lucha libre veteran.

AAA shared a graphic with the following written tribute:

We mourn the sensitive passing of Miguel Ángel López Días, known as Rey Mysterio Sr.

We send our sincere condolences to his loved ones and raise our prayers to heaven for his eternal rest.

(Translated from Spanish)

Rey Misterio Sr (also spelled Rey Mysterio Sr.) made his in-ring debut in 1976, after initially training as a boxer.

He most recently wrestled last year, teaming with Aero Star and Mr Iguana to defeat Hereje, Hijo de Pirata Morgan & Nightmare Azteca in a trios match at Global Lucha Libre on April 24, 2023.

Misterio notably gave his blessing to his nephew to use his name, who first wrestled as Rey Mysterio Jr, before dropping the ‘Jr’ and wrestling as Rey Mysterio in WWE.

Our thoughts are with the friends, family and fans of Miguel Ángel López Díaz, also known as Rey Misterio Sr.
