The new WWE AAA General Manager was officially confirmed on tonight’s episode of AAA ahead of Noche de los Grandes.

It was recently announced that a new AAA General Manager would be announced, which led to a number of names throwing their hat into the ring for the role, including Dorian Roldan, Texano Jr, JBL and more.

It was then confirmed that AAA’s new General Manager would be announced on the May 23 episode of the show, with the announcement kicking off tonight’s show.

Rey Mysterio Is The New AAA General Manager

To kick off tonight’s AAA show, it was confirmed that WWE Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio would be the new General Manager of AAA.

Rey had been providing commentary for AAA alongside Corey Graves and JBL prior to the announcement of him becoming General Manager, with Savio Vega filling in for him on tonight’s show.

Assessing WWE’s Current General Manager Lineup

With Rey Mysterio being announced as the new AAA General Manager, the lineup of GMs across WWE programming has a new addition.

One of the big changed Triple H has maintained compared to the days of Vince McMahon is that there have been no heel authority figures like the days of Vickie Guerrero, Constable Baron Corbin and countless others.

Instead, while it hasn’t been much of a focus recently as it was a few months ago, Triple H and WWE creative created a contrast between Raw’s Adam Pearce and SmackDown’s Nick Aldis where neither of them are heels, but the difference is their management styles.

Pearce seems to invite chaos and meet it with even more chaos, while Aldis brings a more calming tone to proceedings – something that makes Raw and SmackDown feel unique, and while not in direct competition, there’s almost a rivalry between Pearce and Aldis regarding whose management style is better.

Meanwhile, in NXT, Robert Stone has fit seamlessly into the GM spot that was left behind by Ava upon her abrupt WWE departure last year.

NXT has a much more fast-paced and frantic feel to it in general compared to Raw and SmackDown, and Stone so far has been a good addition to that.

Timothy Thatcher as the GM (or ‘Foreman’) of Evolve is an odd fit, but that’s not his fault.

It’ll be interesting to see how Rey Mysterio fits into the new role on WWE AAA every Saturday.
