In a move not many would have predicted, WWE announced on SmackDown tonight that Rey Mysterio is in the 2023 Hall of Fame class.

Mysterio will have a match against his son Dominik at WrestleMania 39 right after being inducted.

Obviously that match would already have been something of a passing of the torch, but it seems there’ll be even more of an impetus on that now with Rey going in the Hall of Fame.

The Hall of Fame ceremony will take place directly after the March 31 edition of SmackDown, the night before WrestleMania.

After the announcement, Rey came out for something of a speech but was cut off by Dominik and the rest of Judgment Day.

Legado Del Fantasma then came out after Santos Escobar’s recent babyface turn as he’s sided with Rey, setting up a six-man tag on tonight’s show between Legado and Judgment Day.

Rey actually ended up accidentally costing Legado the match by distracting the referee which allowed Dominik to cheat before pinning Cruz Del Toro.

Dominik got on the mic and insulted Rey after that match saying he “should have been Eddie’s son”. Rey continued to say he won’t fight Dominik and the match still isn’t “official” for Mania, but it will obviously be happening.
