A rising WWE star has reacted to receiving a personal introduction from Hall of Famer and three-time world champion Rey Mysterio on this week’s NXT (August 8).
Rey was the latest main roster to NXT crossover, something that has become an increasingly common occurrence on Tuesday nights in recent months.
However, this appearance had far greater personal stakes than others as Rey looked to play a role in his son Dominik Mysterio’s North American Championship defence against Dragon Lee.
Of course, continuing their bitter familial feud, Rey stood not in his son’s corner but in Lee’s, and even gave him a special instruction on the microphone ahead of his entrance.
Retweeting a clip of the entrance, Lee summarised just how much Rey’s endorsement meant to him, calling it a “wonderful moment”.
Unfortunately for Lee and Rey, it was ‘Dirty’ Dom who once again walked away as North American Champion, in his fourth televised defence of the title in under a month.
Expectedly Dom’s defence came courtesy of some well-timed interference from his ‘Mami’ Rhea Ripley, who struck Lee with her Women’s World Championship belt before Dom hit a Michinoku Driver for the win.
The post-match angle saw a future mixed tag match potentially set up between Dom and Rhea and Rey Mysterio and a former recent rival of Ripley, who made a surprise appearance to attack her – click here to find out more.
Throughout NXT, Rey also popped up in backstage segments with praise for Roxanne Perez and Thea Hail.
