All of the hype and excitement surrounding Rey Mysterio’s potential return to WWE is going to have to be put on the backburner for another few weeks. It was announced today during the NJPW G1 Climax press conference that the ‘Biggest Little Man’ would be returning to Land of the Rising Sun for one more match.

Though no opponent is forthcoming, Rey will compete at the G1 Climax Finale show on August 12 at Budokan Hall. WWE expect him to sign on the dotted line shortly after and are so confident that he will, they’ve authorized 2K to make him a pre-order exclusive for the upcoming WWE 2K19 video game alongside Ronda Rousey. He even appears in the trailer for the game.
One cannot imagine WWE or Vince McMahon is happy about Rey’s wishes to compete in Japan again, but maybe it’s just best to let him get it out of his system before he ends his career with the worldwide phenomenon.
The ‘Ultimate Underdog’ previously made an appearance for NJPW last month at their Dominion event, teaming with Jushin Thunder Liger and Hiroshi Tanahashi in a losing effort against the Bullet Club’s Cody, Hangman Page, and Marty Scurll.
Give us your thoughts about Rey’s participation with NJPW, his return to WWE, and whether you think it’s the right decision for him as he comes to the end of an illustrious career. You can talk with all of your favorite WrestleTalk writers on Twitter and Discord now.
