Rey Mysterio officially re-signs with WWE

As reported by PWInsider, Rey Mysterio has signed a two-year deal to return to WWE.

It is understood that talks between the luchador and WWE have been in the works for months, following Rey’s one-off appearance in January’s Royal Rumble match. The YouTube clip of that return is one of the most viewed in the history of WWE‘s channel, currently standing at over 17 million views.

The former WWE Champion also entered the 50-man Rumble match at Greatest Royal Rumble, and is available as a pre-order bonus for WWE 2K19.

It was also reported that Vince and co. wanted the ‘Ultimate Underdog’ to sign with the company sooner, but Rey was adamant that he wanted to fulfill his role at All In on September 1, in which he, Fénix and Bandido lost out to the Golden Elite in the main event.

Mysterio had even stated in recent weeks that his return was imminent, and a couple of days ago news broke that WWE were planning for him to reemerge before the 2K19 video game comes out in early October.

The source notes that the deal is two years long, but Rey has the option to opt out 18 months in. He is ready to go and simply awaiting a storyline reason to make his big return.

Mysterio is a ‘Grand Slam’ Champion in WWE, having won three Worlds Championships. He was also victorious in the 2006 Royal Rumble and is regarded as one of the most popular names in wrestling history.
