Mysterio actually beat Samoa Joe to capture the championship a few weeks prior at the Money In The Bank pay-per-view. This was his first reign as United States Championship.

When relinquishing the title, Rey Mysterio said he would go after Samoa Joe and the United States title upon his return from injury.
However, since then, Ricochet has won the United States Championship and is currently in a feud with AJ Styles, and Samoa Joe is challenging Kofi Kingston for the WWE Championship at Extreme Rules.

Raw will also see a “Double Main Event”, part of which sees Andrade and Zelina Vega team up to take on Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch in mixed tag team action.
