After being forced to miss his match with El Grande Americano at WWE WrestleMania 41, Rey Mysterio has now confirmed the nature of his injury.
On the final SmackDown before WrestleMania 41 on Friday, Rey Mysterio teamed with Rey Fenix and Dragon Lee to take on American Made’s Chad Gable and The Creed Brothers.
Unfortunately for the Hall of Famer he would suffer an injury during the bout, with reports stating that he had suffered a torn groin, rather than an injury to his knee or ankle as had been speculated beforehand.
Whilst appearing at a Fanatics live signing event over WrestleMania 41 weekend, Mysterio confirmed that he had indeed suffered a torn groin, saying:
“It’s unfortunate that I suffered a torn groin on Friday night at SmackDown and I wasn’t able to perform. Live to fight another day.”
Mysterio was replaced in his match with El Grande Americano by WWE’s newest signee Rey Fenix, however, the former AEW star came up short in his WrestleMania debut – losing to Chad Gable’s alter ego due to the sly use of a metal plate hidden within his mask.
We wish Mysterio all the best in his recovery and will provide updates on his injury status as more information becomes available.
