Update On Rhea Ripley Match Not Yet Announced For SummerSlam 2023 WWE

A new update has shed light on WWE’s plans for Rhea Ripley and her Women’s World Championship at SummerSlam on August 5.

Ripley’s last televised title defence came on July 3’s Raw, where she took on Natalya in a well-received bout, since then however, she has transitioned into a feud with former WWE Women’s Tag Champions Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez.

While prior reports had suggested this was to build towards a match between Ripley and Rodriguez at SummerSlam, nothing has been announced as of yet.

Adding to the uncertainty was the injury angle WWE have been running with Rodriguez with the 32-year-old missing this week’s Raw (July 24) due to a ‘knee injury’, something Ripley was responsible for causing the week prior.

Now, we may have some clarity on the status of the match courtesy of Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, who reports that Ripley vs Rodriguez is still the plan for Detroit’s Ford Field, despite the angle.

Meltzer writes:

We were told that as of last word, it was still on the show, although they are doing a knee injury angle with Rodriguez.

With Ripley proceeding to write Rodriguez’s partner Morgan off of TV on this week’s Raw (July 24), expect an announcement next week, with Rodriguez undoubtedly looking for revenge.
