Rhea Ripley has revealed that a match against a released star at the first WWE Evolution was a career highlight.
The first WWE Evolution took place in October 2018, with the all-women Premium Live Event set to return in July.
Looking back at the first show, Rhea Ripley recently reflected on her NXT UK Women’s Championship match against a recently released WWE star.
Speaking at the SummerSlam Kickoff show, Ripley looked back at her match against Dakota Kai, which took place before the main show, saying:
“Honestly, Evolution 1 was a massive history-making event for us women in this industry, and to have a second one, man, we’re just getting started.
“But going out at Evolution 1 and facing against Dakota Kai, and it being for the NXT UK Women’s Championship, it was one of the highlights of my career.”
Dakota Kai was released from her WWE contract in May and was among a number of stars to part ways with the company.
Ripley would reveal that the 2018 event marked the sixth anniversary of the start of her wrestling journey, stating:
“It’s funny actually, because the day of Evolution 1 was the exact same day that I started my wrestling journey in Australia for Riot City Wrestling six years prior.
“It’s wild how history repeats itself and just everything lines up so perfectly. Your destiny is your destiny. But right now, the women’s destiny is Evolution 2. We are going to take over this company and we are going to take over that pay-per-view. We are going to absolutely kill it.”
With NXT UK being on a tape delay, Ripley’s reign as the inaugural Women’s Champion is recognized by WWE as starting on November 28, 2018.
She won the title at the 26 August tapings in that year and would hold the title until her loss to Toni Storm at NXT TakeOver Blackpool in January the following year.
Rhea Ripley is set to face Women’s World Champion IYO SKY at WWE Evolution 2 on July 13.
