Ric Flair has criticized WWE for the way Bianca Belair lost the SmackDown Women’s Championship to Becky Lynch at SummerSlam.
Lynch made her big return as a replacement for the uncleared Sasha Banks, and beat Belair in about 20 seconds, which received a lot of criticism.
Speaking on Renee Paquette’s Oral Sessions, Ric Flair added his name to the list of people baffled by the decision, saying:
“I didn’t like it. Sometimes, I don’t understand what they do with anybody, Ashley (Charlotte) included. I didn’t like it at all. I thought Bianca worked so hard. She’s really a nice person. I like her husband (Montez Ford), they seem really close. There are a lot of things that make her unique. I was hoping that someday, I think Bianca and Charlotte could be huge one day. Obviously, the two best athletes in the women’s division. That’s a whole different way of telling a story and building up to the event. Plus, the fact that they can do some stuff that no-one else can.”
Reports have indicated that the idea was for SummerSlam to spark a heel turn for Becky Lynch, which is something she requested, apparently after seeing the success it brought Roman Reigns.
Bianca Belair beat Zelina Vega, Carmella and Liv Morgan in an elimination four-way on SmackDown last week to earn a rematch against Lynch for the title.
