Ricky Starks AEW Release Request Update

Ricky Starks AEW Release Request Update AEW

An update has emerged after it was recently reported that Ricky Starks had requested and been denied his release from his AEW contract.

Having been absent from AEW television since March 2024, it was recently reported that Starks had requested his release from his contract only for it to be denied by Tony Khan.

Sportskeeda’s Dr. Chris Featherstone has now provided further details on Starks and his AEW release request, tweeting:

“Ricky Starks has asked for his release from AEW, I have been informed.

“The reason is due to frustrations with the current creative process and not being used since a tag team loss with Big Bill against Top Flight, 10 months ago, on the March 30, 2024 episode of Collision.

“I have also been informed that Starks has never turned down any creative ideas throughout his entire 10-month television absence, and he is simply just not being utilized.

“Starks is currently still with the company, and his release at this time is not being granted.”

Starks has previously described his absence from AEW as a “mindf**k”, noting that he is “not meant to be just chilling at home.”

On January 17, 2025, Starks competed at House of Glory’s Watch The Throne event and cut a defiant promo following his match against Mike Santana.

Starks’ current AEW deal reportedly ends in spring or summer 2025, with the option year having been picked up during spring of last year.

In August 2024, it was reported that there was “significant interest” in WWE over the possibility of securing Starks for their product.
