Ricky Starks Opens Up On Current Relationship With Cody Rhodes WWE/AEW

FTW Champion Ricky Starks is currently one of the hottest rising stars on the AEW roster, recently competing in an AEW World Tag Team Championship main event on this week’s Dynamite.

Starks made his AEW debut back in 2020 as part of the Cody Rhodes TNT Championship open challenge, where he was unsuccessful at taking the title off of the American Nightmare.

Starks came on Cody’s radar due to his promo work in the NWA during hist time in the NWA, before he officially became All Elite after the match.

Cody left AEW at the beginning of this year, before making his historic WWE return back at WrestleMania 38.

Starks recently spoke to WrestlingInc’s Nick Hausman, where he was asked about his current relationship with Cody since he left AEW. Starks said that he still speaks to him and goes to him for advice.

He said:

“I know a lot of people make up these rumors and ideas because I’m friends with someone that certain things happened, and it’s just funny to me. It’s like, ‘Hey, how dare he still talk to…’. It’s like, if you had a real friendship with someone, you guys would know that it doesn’t matter where they go or what happens to them. Yes, him — Cody and Tony [Khan] brought me in, for sure. I still talk to Cody, I still ask him for advice. There’s nothing wrong with that. I’m not a turncoat or something like that.”

Starks continued on, saying that Rhodes is a genuine friend that wants the best for him, before naming the other person in AEW he feels the same way about.

He said:

“It’s just a genuine friend to have and somebody that actually cares and looks out for me because that’s very few and far between. The other person in AEW is Sonjay [Dutt]. Sonjay actually looks out and is helpful with me, and sometimes you need that, man. Sometimes you’re just a misunderstood person and people just don’t want to bother. It’s good to have these people that do care.”

Starks and Hobbs were unsuccessful in their attempts to capturethe AEW World Tag Team Championship on Dynamite, with the Swerve In Our Glory duo of Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland capturing the titles.
