It was reported today that Road Dogg (real name Brian James), who was inducted into the 2019 WWE Hall of Fame along with D-Generation X, stepped down from his role as Smackdown’s Head Writer after he became frustrated with Vince McMahon changing his script.
Wrestling Inc. is reporting that no one is being lined up to replace Road Dogg. They also confirm that he will not be stepping away from the company, but instead transitioning into a new role. This is supported by Pro Wrestling Sheet. who is reporting that the former WWE Tag Team Champion could now fill the “behind-the-scenes” role that was held by Arn Anderson before he was released by Vince McMahon.
It should also be noted that it is being reported that there have been discussions about transitioning Road Dogg into the commentary team. Road Dogg’s decision to leave his current role is said to have been a mutual decision. It is said that WWE value James as an important backstage official in WWE, and want to keep his position “flexible” and ensure he is still a “utility player”.
