Report: The Rock Vs Roman Reigns Is ‘100% The Plan’ For WrestleMania 39 WWE

A notable update has emerged on the possibility of a Roman Reigns vs The Rock match, following recent speculation about a dream clash.

The Rock’s return to the ring has been teased on many occasions, specifically for a contest against the Tribal Chief, Roman Reigns.

Previous reports indicated that WWE was waiting to have this match in Los Angeles, leading to speculation that Dwayne Johnson will battle Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39 in California’s SoFi Stadium.

Per Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, the current plan is indeed for this bout to headline the April 2023 event:

“It’s the plan. It’s 100% the plan for this year (WrestleMania 39). But the idea is, it’s the plan if he can do it.

“We’re still months away, months and months away. So many opportunities and things like that may come up that are far more important than WrestleMania.”

Roman Reigns is currently the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion, winning the Universal Title in August 2020 and unifying it with the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 38 in April.

Paul Heyman had recently fuelled speculation about a Rock vs Reigns match after publicly stating that the Tribal Chief would let The Rock challenge for the gold.

Besides his six-second victory over Erick Rowan (Redbeard) at WrestleMania 32 in 2016, The Rock’s last full match took place at WrestleMania 29 in 2014, against John Cena.

WWE recently announced more details about WrestleMania 40 in 2024, which you can read about right here.
