More details have emerged on a recent meeting between ROH and GCW about talent exchanges, prior to ROH announcing its hiatus.
At GCW Fight Club last month, ROH’s Mark & Jay Briscoe of The Briscoes confronted GCW Tag Team Champions Mance Warner & Matthew Justice. At GCW War Ready on October 23, The Briscoes defeated the titleholders to win the GCW gold.
GCW talents AJ Gray and Effy were both at last week’s ROH tapings. As per Fightful Select (subscription required), there was a meeting between GCW and ROH before Fight Club about the two promotions sharing talent.
Fightful noted that top names, including Jay Lethal, were brought up in negotiations, but “talks didn’t make it that far.” The Briscoes’ GCW appearances, and AJ Gray and Effy’s ROH showings notably came as a result of this one meeting.
At Honor for All, airing Sunday (November 14), Gray and Effy challenge The Briscoes for the GCW Tag Team Titles.
ROH has released all talent from their contracts ahead of the promotion being ‘reimagined’ after Final Battle on December 11. Releases reportedly come into effect at the end of the year, with talents who had deals beyond January 1, 2022 to be paid until March 31, 2022.
A separate report has revealed that ROH plans to focus on non-contracted wrestlers after the promotion’s reboot.
