Samoa Joe Is All Elite

Samoa Joe

SAMOA JOE IS IN RING OF HONOR.

SAMOA JOE IS ALL ELITE. LOOK!

What a finish to the show.

Jonatham Gresham defeats Bandido, wins Undisputed Ring of Honor Championship

Jonathan Gresham

Jonathan Gresham is the Undisputed Ring of Honor Champion after defeating Bandido in the main event.

It was a good match…not a great match, but a good match. It actually finish with a roll up pin, and while I can see they’re keeping Bandido strong, I like main events to have clean finishes where someone actually beats the other person.

After the bell, Jay Lethal comes out to challenge for the belt, and things quickly get violent between the two men. Sonjay Dutt appears to have come out to calm things down, but he also attacks Gresham.

Lee Moriarty tries to make the save, but Dutt and Lethal beat him up too.

Oh, it’s Samoa Joe.

Sorry, I mean…OH MY GOD IT’S SAMOA JOE FIUEOFHOBWEUIECBUEQ!

Wheeler Yuta defats Josh Woods

Wheeler Yuta

Oh, a roll-up to win the belt.

Wheeler Yuta is your new ROH Pure Champion, and it’s the third title change of the night.

You have to say not a lot really happened in this match, but having never seen a Pure match before, I can’t really compare it to other Pure matches in the past.

But now it’s time for out main event. Jonathan Gresham vs. Bandido for the Undisputed Ring of Honor Championship.

Minoru Suzuki defeats Rhett Titus

Minoru Suzuki

Well that was a lot quicker than I thought it was going to be.

Minoru Suzuki wins his first ever championship in North America, and it’s the ROH TV Championship. He barely broke a sweat against Rhett Titus, who was dispatched in barely 10 minutes with a Gotch-Style piledriver.

Another new champion, and next up we could have another one, as it’s Josh Woods vs. Wheeler Yuta for the ROH Pure Championship.

FTR Defeat The Briscoes To Win ROH Tag Team Championship

Well that was just one of the best tag team matches you’ll ever see.

Say what you want about The Briscoes outside of the ring, there’s no doubt they’re some of the best tag team wrestlers on the planet, and their opponents are no different.

The fans got their money’s worth, there’s no doubt about that, and they were into this match from the first bell to the final bell.

After dominating much of the first portion of the match, Jay Briscoe was busted open after going headfirst into the bottom of a table.

This turned the tide in favour of FTR, but there was still plenty of time to go in the match. Both teams appeared to have won the match with very close near-falls, but eventually it was FTR who managed to win the match and the tag titles with a Big Rig on Mark Briscoe.

The two teams embraced after the match and shook hands, but that was far from the end of the action.

The crowd went wild as Matt and Nick Jackson, or The Young Bucks if you prefer, showed up to attack the Briscoes. FTR came back out for the save, and challenged the Bucks to a match. Unfortunately for the crowd, the Bucks refused, and said they would have a match, but it will be next week on AEW Dynamite.

Go out of your way to see this match. It was exceptional.

Mercedes Martinez defeats Willow Nightingale

Mercedes Martinez

Ouch, I think Mercedes Martinez didn’t really enjoy the last few minutes of that match, but winning the interim ROH Women’s Championship is always fun.

Willow hit Martinez with a top rope moonsault after a sometimes sloppy but overall very enjoyable match, but appeared to land knees first into Martinez’s ribs or diaphragm.

Mercedes appeared to be in immediate discomfort, but was able to recover long enough to lock Willow in a dragon sleeper hold for the win.

Next up is FTR vs. The Briscoes for the ROH Tag Team Championship. This could be match of the night for sure.

Jay Lethal defeats Lee Moriarty

Jay Lethal

Jay Lethal wins the match, and Lee Moriarty has sore testicles.

Moriarty looked to have the match won on several occasions, and even appeared to have pinned Lethal, but the referee assured us it was a 2.5 count.

A frustrated Lethal resorted to a low blow when the referee’s back was turned to win the match, and then attacked Matt Sydal who was wearing crutches. He was then pull away by best friend Sonjay Dutt who was watching at ringside.

So a Jay Lethal heel turn, what does this mean for his future in AEW?

Brian Cage defeats Ninja Mack

Brian Cage is Tully Blanchard’s new client, and sometimes you forget just how huge that man is. His shoulders are bigger than my entire body.

He destroys Ninja Mack in a matter of minutes, and then poses with Tully Blanchard, Kaun and Toa Liona. It’s going to be interesting to see what’s planned for this trio going forward.

Swerve Strickland defeats Alex Zayne

Swerve Strickland

Well that was a great way to start the main card, with a fantastic match between Swerve Strickland and Alex Zayne.

Both men absolutely killed it for 15 relentless minutes of action. But I’m now distracted because it turns out that Brian Cage is Tully Blanchard’s mystery client.

It had been reported earlier in the day by Fightful Select that Brian Cage was at the show, and now we know why.

Going back to Swerve vs. Zayne, Swerve won in epic fashion, and continued his very impressive run since being released by WWE last November. He’s a star in the making.

Dalton Castle defeats Joe Hendry

Dalton Castle

Dalton Castle is an interesting bloke, isn’t he? His little chicks at ringside are deeply unsettling, and clearly they were distracting enough, as Joe Hendry was unable to pick up the win on this occasion.

Easily the best match of the pre-show, both men hit plenty of offense, but it was Castle who won the final match of the pre-show with a Bangarang.

Time for the main card, featuring FTR vs. The Briscoe Brothers, and Jonathan Gresham vs. Bandido.

Gates of Agony defeat Shinobi Shadow Squad

Gates of Agony is not a very cool name, just thought I would start with that.

However, that is the name of Tully Blanchard’s new tag team clients. It’s a team featuring Kaun and Toa Liona, who have appeared on several episodes of AEW Dark and Dark: Elevation in the recent past.

Clearly there are big plans for the two men, and while the match was a bit sloppy, they completely dominated their opponents and won very quickly. Blanchard will be unveiling another client later on the main show.

Up next is Joe Hendry vs. Dalton Castle.

AQA Defeats Miranda Alize

AQA

AQA picks up the victory over a spirited Miranda Alize with a huge shooting star press. Alize looked to have to match won after a cutter, but AQA was able to recover to hit the move from the top rope for the win.

After the match, Tully Blanchard unveiled his new clients, and it’s the Gates of Agony, a tag team of Kaun and Toa Liona, so that’s fun.

Colt Cabana defeats Blake Christian

Colt Cabana defeats Blake Christian in a quick match to open the pre-show. Fun to see Cabana back in Ring of Honor, and nice to see Blake Christian getting a bit of screen time.

Cabana wins in under 10 minutes with the Chicago Skyline. Next up is AQA vs. Miranda Alize.

Welcome to the show!
