Roman Reigns And Triple H Affecting Survivor Series Plans

Roman Reigns And Triple H Affecting Survivor Series Plans

It’s safe to say the main event of WWE Crown Jewel did not go well. With Triple H picking up a major injury early in the match, Kane’s mask falling off and all four of the wrestlers bumbling around with a combined age of over 200, things did not exactly go to plan. It’s the first of these points that may reportedly end up having a knock-on effect for later shows, namely Survivor Series.

In addition to Triple H’s injury, Roman Reigns announced recently that his leukaemia has reemerged, and he would away indefinitely and vacating his Universal Championship. It’s already been reported that the original plans for Crown Jewel were for him to retain his title, but that match is not the only thing that’s having to be changed because of it.

The combination of Reigns’ illness and Triple H’s injury is reportedly throwing a lot of Survivor Series plans in jeopardy. WrestleVotes on Twitter (who have a pretty good track record of breaking backstage news) have tweeted a lot of updates regarding these potential changes.

Allegedly, originally a Raw vs SmackDown theme for this year’s Survivor Series was out of the question because Vince McMahon, for whatever reason, was strongly against a Roman Reigns vs AJ Styles champion vs champion match. Since Roman had to vacate his title and Brock Lesnar is now the champion, plans shifted hurriedly to switch to the Raw vs SmackDown theme that was present last year, with Becky Lynch vs Ronda Rousey and Seth Rollins vs Shinsuke Nakamura also announced for the show. As such, the rumored Team Corbin vs Team Angle 5-on-5 classic Survivor Series elimination match may also be on hold as both stars are drafted to Raw.

Also in contention for Survivor Series was a legendary WrestleMania rematch between Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker, however this now may be out of contention too. Prior to Crown Jewel, Michaels was open to working another match or two as long as things “went well” in his return match at the show. However, since Triple H picked up his injury, it’s as of yet unclear whether things “went well” or not. If not, Michaels may not wrestle another match again. HBK was seen mentioning to WWE cameras after Crown Jewel that he wants to get back to his regular life and did not plan on wrestling again.

These are all huge blows for the company if all true. Obviously the Roman Reigns alterations can’t be helped, but if a blockbuster match of Michaels vs Taker is now off the table too, WWE may struggle to find suitable star power to replace it, especially for a big four show like Survivor Series.
