An update has emerged on WWE plans for a Cody Rhodes vs Roman Reigns championship match, the third of their trilogy.
Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes faced off in the main events of both WrestleMania 39 and 40, with Reigns retaining what was then called the WWE Undisputed Universal Championship in 2023, and Rhodes finally winning the gold in 2024.
Following rumors that a third title match is slated for WrestleMania 42, an update has indicated that this isn’t definitely the WWE Championship match planned for the April 18-19 event.
Per Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE does have a Cody Rhodes vs Roman Reigns WWE Championship match planned, although not necessarily at WrestleMania 42.
Meltzer wrote:
It’s been confirmed to us that a Rhodes vs. Reigns match for the WWE title is in the plans, although not necessarily at WrestleMania.
Rollins vs. Breakker, Reigns vs. Punk and Rhodes against someone else could be done.
Rollins has talked about wanting to wrestle at Mania. We’ve been told this week that it is a possibility but it’s too early to determine if it can happen.
