In the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer discusses the handling of Roman Reigns missing WrestleMania. He says the details are still a little sketchy.
However, the belief is that Roman showed up for the round of tapings, but when he and The Usos found out Miz was sick and running a fever, the cousins had a family discussion.
Based on that talk, Roman decided that it was best for his health and family to head out. Given his history with cancer, he is a higher risk than most.
Where the story gets a bit interesting though is how WWE has handled the situation. WWE is still continuing to advertise Roman vs. Goldberg. Triple H said earlier in the week that fans need to let the story play out before getting angry about them still advertising it.
Having to stay home is tough for kids. This is even more so for children with cancer, like leukemia survivor, King. @LLSUSA and I encourage you all to hang in there. LLS is here to help cancer survivors during these difficult times. Learn more: https://t.co/FZATSVSbiv pic.twitter.com/GdQNWHLu2c

However, Roman may already be angry. The story of Roman not being at WrestleMania was leaked and then confirmed 3 days later by Roman himself.
So, if Roman flagged himself, what’s there to be angry about? Well, Roman is supposed to be their main man and they should want to protect the 34-year-old to keep him alive and healthy for years to come.
However, the company let Roman take the heat for stepping away instead of doing the right thing and saying we are protecting someone at high risk. Aside from it being the right thing to do, it makes both parties look better.
Roman showed up and wanted to work. WWE cares more about their employees than the bottom line. Instead, many fans called Roman a coward and WWE looks like they don’t care.
Roman’s response definitely displays the fact that he was upset over the criticism he was getting.:
“For years now man, years, people have been like, `Don’t show up to WrestleMania, we don’t want you in it,’ you know what I mean? There’s a nice handful of dudes and haters that didn’t want me there, but the moment I make a choice for me and my family I’m a coward? I’m a sissy But you don’t know the whole story. You don’t know what else is going on in my life. You don’t know if I have newborns, you don’t know if I have family in my household, older family.”
Roman definitely made the smart decision. It’s just too bad WWE doesn’t seem to make very many of those.
