Fightful has reported that prior to his leukaemia diagnosis in October last year, Roman Reigns had informed Vince McMahon that he would not be taking part in the Crown Jewel PPV.
Reigns returned to Raw last night to announce that he was back to stay after being told his cancer was in remission.
Had he been able to compete, Reigns would have joined both John Cena and Daniel Bryan in refusing to travel to Saudi Arabia following the well publicised murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi.
WWE drew heavy criticism from around the world for their decision to keep working with the Saudis, but having signed a 10-year deal with the country, there are still no plans to cancel any future events.
Roman, like Bryan, did appear at April’s Greatest Royal Rumble Show, but Fightful’s report suggests that Roman had a change of heart between the two shows and refused to appear at Crown Jewel.
For three such big stars to refuse to appear at a show is a huge blow for WWE, and it will make the planned May 2019 show very tricky to book.
