Roman Reigns has teased challenging for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, a title he has yet to hold since its introduction in April 2023.
The title was created at a time when Roman Reigns, as Undisputed WWE Universal Champion, held both the WWE Championship and the WWE Universal Championship.
In a comment made on the No-Contest Wrestling podcast, Reigns seemed to suggest that he could the WWE star to elevate the gold, saying:
“If we’re trying to lift the value, you know what waist it’s supposed to go on.”
At SummerSlam in August 2024, GUNTHER defeated Damian Priest to become the WWE World Heavyweight Champion.
With Jey Uso winning the Men’s Royal Rumble Match on February 1, 2025, GUNTHER was named as his opponent for WrestleMania 41 in Apri.
Reigns was less successful at the Royal Rumble, being eliminated by CM Punk in the titular Men’s match.
Inaugural WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins previously reflected on the ‘work rate‘ status of the title, holding the championship from May 27, 2023 at Night of Champions until WrestleMania 40 and his loss to Drew McIntyre on April 7, 2024.
Since its introduction, there have been four champions in total, with Drew McIntyre holding the title for mere moments after Priest cashed in his Money in the Bank opportunity at WrestleMania 40 to leave with the championship.
