Former Raw and SmackDown Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey faced off against her real-life friend Shayna Baszler in an MMA Rules match at SummerSlam last Saturday.
The match came as a result of Shayna turning on Ronda back at Money In The Bank, costing the two the Women’s Tag Team Championship against Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez.
The reason for the split was reportedly due to Ronda’s contract having a hard out date, with her set to depart the company soon.
Taking to Instagram following her loss, Ronda told Shayna that she has ‘no reason to stay’ in wrestling following SummerSlam.
She wrote:
@qosbaszler you were the reason I got into this business… Now I got no reason to stay
Dave Meltzer noted that the match was Ronda’s ‘farewell for now’ amid the rumours of her departure.
There were reportedly ‘creative issues’ around the match at SummerSlam, with Ronda and Shayna having different ideas to creative.
