Ronda Rousey Wants WWE WrestleMania Main Event!

Ronda Rousey Wants WWE WrestleMania Main Event!

Ronda Rousey, the ‘Baddest Woman on the Planet’, was recently interviewed by Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated where she was very clear about her goals in WWE.

“It’s definitely a goal of mine to be one of the first women to headline WrestleMania. But who that would be against or even if that would be a possibility is yet to be seen.”

If it does happen, it remains to be seen whether that will occur at WrestleMania 35 next year in the MetLife Stadium, or further down the line. Regardless, Rousey made a memorable debut at this year’s WrestleMania, teaming with Kurt Angle to take on the team of Triple H and Stephanie McMahon. The sight of the UFC Hall of Famer making her entrance and beaming from ear to ear on the ‘Grandest Stage of Them All’ was one viewers will remember for some time to come, and apparently was an idea suggested by Vince McMahon himself.

“I usually walk out and I’m all business, but Vince specifically told me to go out and allow myself to feel everything that I was feeling and not hide anything, and not to try and go out and be the tough girl, but to allow myself to smile, to enjoy it because, according to Vince, when I smile the whole world wants to hug me.”

You can’t exactly disagree. While Rousey plays a very convincing and legitimate tough girl, seeing her smile and be herself is something that sets her apart from a lot of other generic wrestlers.

Despite the big stage and high stakes, Ronda’s favorite moment from WrestleMania 34 came after the match.

“The most memorable moment of WrestleMania was right after I won. I was looking around trying to find my husband and our two boys in the stands. When I did, being able to tell them I love them and share that moment with them was one of the best memories I have because, despite all my previous successes, this was the first time I had my own family there to share it with me.”

What a big softy she is. Speaking of emotions (…segue?), Rousey’s accomplishments in UFC and now in WWE is something she’s very proud of, especially considering accolades of the magnitude she’s received would have been inconceivable not long ago.

“I’m most proud of the innovation it took. My mom says all the time that ideas are a dime a dozen, and I think that I’m not the first person that had the ideas that I did, but I’m the first person that acted upon them in the way that I did. It would have been nice if there were a path already cleared for me to tread but then again, it wasn’t meant for my journey to be easy. I was meant to be the one that clears that path, the one to make the journey a little bit easier for everyone after me so they can keep clearing paths for those behind them. It’s almost kind of like we can all only go as far as we possibly can and make it a little bit easier for the people after us so that they can go a little farther than we did.”

The former UFC Women’s Bantamweight Champion can legitimately be called a trailblazer, and most definitely has paved a path for future women to follow in her footsteps and potentially even exceed them. Hopefully her influence stretches beyond UFC and WWE and will inspire a generation for the future.

Rousey will challenge Alexa Bliss at SummerSlam for the Raw Women’s Championship, which will be broadcast on August 19.
