We are saddened to learn that former ECW World Champion Sabu – real name Terrance “Terry” Brunk – has passed away at the age of 60.
Mike Johnson of PWInsider announced the news of Brunk’s passing, sharing the following:
PWInsider.com is extremely saddened to report that former ECW World Champion Sabu, one of the most vibrant and groundbreaking professional wrestlers of his era, Sabu (real name Terry Brunk) has passed away.
I can and will be writing a lot more about the life and career of Sabu.
Brunk wrestled his retirement match on April 18, defeating Joey Janela in a No Rope Barbed Wire match at GCW Joey Janela’s Spring Break.
This bout marked the end of Brunk’s wrestling career, which began in 1985 after training from his uncle, “The Sheik” Ed Farhat.
Many fans know Brunk from his time wrestling as Sabu in ECW, with Brunk making his debut for what was then “Eastern Championship Wrestling” in 1993.
He went on to hold the ECW World Heavyweight Championship, World Television Championship and World Tag Team Championship during his time with the company, becoming ECW’s second Triple Crown Champion.
He officially joined WWE in 2006 and wrestled for the company up until his exit in May 2007.
Other notable companies Brunk appeared for included TNA Wrestling, AEW and NJPW.
Our thoughts are with the friends, family and fans of Terry Brunk, also known as Sabu, at this time.
