Sami Zayn Compares Himself To WWE Hall of Famer

Sami Zayn Compares Himself To WWE Hall of Famer WWE

Since joining the company in 2013, Sami Zayn is riding his in WWE and has been from his time in WWE NXT to his main roster run.

Well-regarded internationally before he joined WWE, Zayn has been in the business for twenty years and, at age of 38 he believes he’s just hitting his stride.

Speaking on the WWE After the Bell with Corey Graves podcast, Zayn discussed how he sees himself currently, saying:

“It is funny how quick time flies, it is just funny to kind of be hitting my stride in a sense, now.”

Zayn would then identify an inspiration that continues with him until today, explaining:

“I used to look at Bret Hart as an inspiration, for many things … one of the things I always find remarkable is that I always thought Bret found his voice and his character and really hit his peak in 1997.”

“He was 40, he was 20-plus years into the game, he was born into the business and at 40 all of a sudden, he starts hitting his stride as a character.”

It’s this thought, of a twenty-year veteran only just finding his feet in a business to which he was born, that has driven Sami Zayn forward, with Zayn stating:

“I always looked at that and thought, ‘Well, there’s really no time limit to when you really hit that part of your career.

“Bret was having great matches for example in the late 80s, early 90s all this stuff.

“But, as that marquee performer and a marquee character, he had already won the title five times.”

For Hart, 1997 would be a tumultuous year in wrestling.

His match against Stone Cold Steve Austin at WrestleMania 13 would cement Hart’s heel turn and enhance the stratospheric rise of Austin.

It would also be the year of the infamous Montreal Screwjob which would see Hart leave the then-WWF and head to WCW.

For Zayn, his importance to current WWE programming, in particular with The Bloodline, was emphasised by Paul Heyman.

Future plans for the Honorary Uce have also been reportedly revealed.
