Sami Zayn is no longer your WWE Intercontinental Champion. WWE announced last night that Zayn would be stripped of the title as a result of being unable to compete. Now, a tournament is being held to determine a new champion.
Zayn responded to the news on Twitter earlier today. Needless to say, he is not a happy camper.
I disagree with this decision and no matter what anyone says, I am still undefeated and therefore still the Intercontinental Champion. -SZ https://t.co/SUFsBFeRDB

“I disagree with this decision and no matter what anyone says, I am still undefeated and therefore still the Intercontinental Champion.”
Zayn won the title at Fastlane by beating Braun Strowman in a 3-on-1 Handicap match. This was his first title since joining the main roster. He recently defended the title against Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania in what was his final match as champion.
It was initially reported that Zayn missed a week of SmackDown due to having his wisdom teeth removed. However, that was several weeks ago and the report now is that Zayn has chosen not to return due to the pandemic.
It remains to be seen how long it will be before Sami Zayn makes his return to television. Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura have seemingly aligned themselves with Baron Corbin, which could signal the end of their relationship with Zayn.
