WWE has taken to its website and social media to announce a new match for SmackDown featuring Sami Zayn who returned recently.
Zayn will take on AJ Styles in singles action. Both men have been claiming they are the rightful holder of the Intercontinental Championship, which is currently held by Jeff Hardy.
WWE.com writes:
AJ Styles will take on Sami Zayn in a showdown of two Superstars who both believe they are the rightful Intercontinental Champion.
Zayn has wreaked havoc since his return, as the boisterous Superstar has tried to stake claim to the Intercontinental Title. The Great Liberator reasserted himself by attacking Intercontinental Champion Jeff Hardy in his reemergence on the blue brand. Zayn would then break up Hardy and Styles’ title clash last week.
Will the matchup between Styles and Zayn help clear up the Intercontinental Title picture or leave it even more chaotic than before?
This will be Zayn’s first match since WrestleMania 36 in early April when he defeated Daniel Bryan to retain the IC Championship. He then opted to stay at home due to the pandemic and WWE vacated the title, with Styles winning it in a tournament the following month and holding it until Hardy beat him a couple of weeks ago.
Also announced for SmackDown is a ‘Samoan Street Fight’ with Roman Reigns & Jey Uso against King Corbin & Sheamus, Sasha Banks to address Bayley’s attack, and Nikki Cross to be the guest on ‘A Moment Of Bliss’.
