Before he joined WWE and became Sami Zayn, the helluva kicking Canadian was tearing up the indie scene as the masked luchador El Generico.
Generico held titles for over 15 different promotions, including Ring of Honor, Pro Wrestling Guerrilla and Chikara before signing with NXT in 2013.
Zayn’s run with WWE hasn’t brought quite the same level of championship success that his time in the mask did, so could he be hinting at a return to the luchador lifestyle when he returns from his shoulder injury “soon”?
Fans have spotted that the El Generico twitter account is active for the first time since August 2013, which is more than enough for us to start speculating that this could be a hint at Zayn’s future.

Zayn hasn’t been seen in a WWE ring since Money in the Bank in June 2018, after which he underwent successful shoulder surgery. It is understood that he has been cleared to return, but as for when that will be, we just don’t know.
Would you like to see a return to the El Generico gimmick, or is it best left in the past? Let us know in the comments.
