Sami Zayn WWE Contract Expiring Later Than Expected?

Sami Zayn WWE Contract Expiring Later Than Expected?

Back in May or June 2018, Sami Zayn signed a three-year deal with WWE, meaning his contract would have expired a couple of months ago.

However, when a wrestler gets injured, WWE has the ability to extend contracts for the length of time a wrestler was unable to perform, and as Zayn suffered a number of injuries over the past few years, it may be a while before he’s able to leave WWE, if that is what he plans to do.

Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer noted that Zayn’s contract may have been extended by as much as nine-and-a-half months, meaning he wouldn’t be free to leave until around March 2022.

“Regarding Zayn’s contract, Pat Laprade reported that he signed a three-year deal in late May or early June of 2018. However, because he’s had two shoulder surgeries, WWE has extended it. They may have extended it as much as nine-and-a-half months so it could be March or April depending on the length of time it was frozen before he’s a free agent.”

Zayn’s close friend Kevin Owens is another current WWE star whose deal is up soon, with Fightful Select revealing a change to his contract during lockdown means his current deal expires at the end of January 2022.

While Tony Khan hasn’t commented, you would think Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens would be two people every wrestling promotion in the world would want to sign if the two men were to become free agents at the start of next year.
