After a crazy week backstage in All Elite Wrestling, this week’s AEW Dynamite show had a lot of things to address in regards to it’s championships.
Tony Khan kicked off the show by announcing that both the AEW World Championship and the AEW Trios Championship had been vacated following the backstage fight involving former champions CM Punk and the Elite, with Death Triangle being crowned the new Trios Champions in the opening match of the show.
For the AEW World Championship, Khan announced a ‘Tournament of Champions’ which saw Chris Jericho and Jon Moxley receive byes into the semi-finals. The first quarter final saw Bryan Danielson defeat Hangman Adam Page to earn a match with Jericho on next week’s Dynamite.
The other quarter final took place on tonight’s Rampage, and saw Sammy Guevara defeat Darby Allin to advance in the tournament, with him set to take on Jon Moxley also on next week’s Dynamite show.
The winners of next week’s semi finals will face off at AEW Dynamite Grand Slam in Arthur Ashe Stadium the following week for the vacant championship.
