Sammy Guevara and Tay Conti have commented on the change in reaction they have received in recent weeks.
Fans turned on the duo during Guevara’s rivalry with Scorpio Sky, with the former TNT Champion starting out as a babyface, and how working under a more heelish persona.
The character change was a quick course correction, with Tony Khan previously admitting that he had misread fan reactions to the duo.
Speaking with Rasslin’, the duo argued that they haven’t changed, noting:
Guevara: “What changed? The people changed, we are still the same people. We are still the beautiful Tay Conti here, the Brazilian Goddess, the Spanish God, doing all these crazy things in the ring. I am still the same person, she’s still the same person.
“I think really what happened was the people exposed themselves. I don’t think people hate us, I think the fake people exposed themselves for being fake, the real people are still there. Our core audience, the people who have always supported us, still support us.”
Conti: “I mean, we did nothing wrong for people to hate us, that’s what I am saying. Why? Why would they hate us?”
The duo are currently the AAA Mixed Tag Team Champions, winning the gold at TripleMania XXX in Monterray via somewhat nefarious means.
Guevara’s most recent AEW bout took place on the April 27 edition of Dynamite when he lost the TNT Title to Scorpio Sky in a ladder match.
