Samoa Joe Comments On Upcoming NXT Changes

Former NXT Champion Samoa Joe has addressed reports that major changes are coming for the Gold Brand, ahead of NXT TakeOver 36.

It has previously been reported that WWE plans to repackage NXT as a developmental division that focuses on bigger and younger wrestlers. Samoa Joe has noted that he hopes that NXT continues to evolve.

In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Joe argued that NXT has always been the experimental brand. Not wanting “the same old NXT”, Joe said:

“I hope NXT is never the same as it used to be. I hope NXT is always changing and evolving and experimenting and trying new things. So much has been done in NXT, so many barriers have been crossed and so many new, amazing superstars have been introduced. It’s always been a place for experimentation, it’s always been a place for something new. I hope it continues to be that. I hope it’s never the same old NXT.”

Joe returns to action to challenge Karrion Kross for the NXT Championship at NXT TakeOver 36 on Sunday. The bout will be Joe’s first since February 2020.

WALTER will defend his NXT UK Championship against Ilja Dragunov on the show. The Champion has recently shared his thoughts on his controversial Survivor Series 2019 loss.
