An injured AEW star has remained with the company and has been paid while rehabbing.
At last year’s AEW Blood & Guts, Santana suffered an unfortunate ACL injury during the course of the bout that has forced him to miss nearly a year of action.
Prior to the injury, the former LAX member had been publicly counting down to what many believed to be the expiration of his AEW contract.
Fightful Select (subscription required) provided an update, noting that Santana remains under contract with All Elite Wrestling and has been paid through the duration of his injury.
The report notes that his contract expiration hasn’t been clarified to them as of yet, but a source familiar with AEW deals said if Santana’s contract expires in September as he had been hinting on social media, that the company could attempt to keep him a couple of months after his return.
This is due the amount of contracted time the former Inner Circle member could have had left before he was injured.
The report also indicates that Tony Khan was adamant about paying injured talent, which in this case could have been well after Santana’s deal could have expired. In all, AEW may have paid Santana for over a half-year that he could have been off the books.
We will have further updates on Santana’s AEW status when they become available.
