WWE star Santos Escobar appears to be set for a championship match, with a current title holder issuing a challenge.

Escobar made his first wrestling appearance in six months at AAA’s debut show on FOX in Latin America on January 17.

Following his absence – which saw him briefly depart and rejoin the company – Escobar attacked AAA Latin American Champion El Hijo de Dr Wagner Jr while wearing a Fantasma mask, before unmasking in the ring.

The January 24 AAA on FOX show saw El Hijo de Dr Wagner Jr defend his championship against Mecha Wolf.

Following the bout, the champion sent a message to Santos Escobar, taking to the mic to state:

During his comments made after his return last week, Santos Escobar said that he will be working on his time moving forward.

Santos Escobar last wrestled during the July 27, 2025 Supershow Mexico house show.

His last televised match saw him, Angel and Berto defeat Ej Hijo del Dr Wagner Jr, Pagano and Psycho Clown at AAA X WWE Worlds Collide on June 7.
