Saraya Reveals Which AEW Stars Knew She Was Debuting AEW

Saraya’s AEW debut was a rare thing – a secret from many in wrestling fans that led to a surprise for those watching and many backstage.

There had, of course, been rumors of Saraya signing with AEW, but until her music hit and her name appeared on screen they were just rumors.

Speaking on the AEW Unrestricted podcast, Saraya talked about the secrecy surrounding her return, saying:

“It was wild.

“It all happened very fast.

“Tony (Khan) was maybe we can do this in two weeks by Grand Slam.

“I was like “my god”

“But, we had to keep this a secret.”

The problem was, of course, the secret getting out, which would be so easy with the prevalence of smartphones and social media journalism.

Saraya explained the lengths that she went to in order to keep the secret:

“The only people who knew, in the end, were Tony, his lawyer, Renee, Moxley, Jericho and Britt.

“Even the day of, I didn’t tell Britt is was confirmed.

“I wanted to surprise her, too.

“I was just very careful of who knew.

“I didn’t want it to be leaked.”

As if that wasn’t difficult enough, being at the venue would present its own challenges, with Saraya saying:

“There was a little room (the tech supply closet) and I was ‘I can’t leave this, even if i want to… but this going to be so worth it.’

“Trying to get smuggled in, you have to walk through all the hallways where all the wrestlers hanging out.

“I had this hood and sunglasses and I see PAC and Claudio, we go way back so I’m just instinctively look up, and push my head down.

“PAC is just like “did anyone else just see that?” and I was “oh, sh*t”, so he probably already knows.”

Even Aubrey Edwards wasn’t sure of who AEW had brought in whilst was tasked with escorting through the building with a security detail and backstage producer Daryl.

Saraya would eventually reveal herself backstage, introducing herself the women’s division to a warm and appreciated welcome.

Speaking of the actual moment when she was about to walk out in front of a new audience, Saraya experienced a surreal moment as she worried nobody would know who she was under a name other than Paige with new music,  explaining:

“At first, it was like “who’s this music? What’s happening?”

“Luckily, my name popped up and everyone knew I was and the crowd erupted.

“That was the loudest a crowd has reacted to me in my whole career.”
