AEW Star Had Doubts About Wrestling Future After Fan Criticism

AEW Star Had Doubts About Wrestling Future After Fan Criticism AEW

Following one of the best reactions in their entire career at AEW, things were looking good for an AEW star, until they checked social media.

On the September 28 edition of AEW Dynamite, Saraya would cut a promo with some fans criticizing it for a variety of reasons, including stumbling over the wording near the beginning of the segment.

Speaking on the AEW Unrestricted podcast, Saraya discussed the promo and the internet reaction with hosts Aubrey Edwards and Tony Schiavone:

“I will tell you though, the second week when I did the promo, which wasn’t the best promo I ever did and I was really disappointed in it, I realised how crazy the internet community can be.

“I even, in my head at that point, was did I make a mistake coming back?’”

In a podcast episode where the “vocal minority” are referenced for their reaction to what they see in wrestling, Saraya went on to say:

“I hadn’t been around the internet wrestling community for a while and I made the rookie move to check it that week, after the second week.

“My biggest regret was checking it as it made me feel awful.”

The impact of a wave of negativity towards a single person cannot be underestimated, even if those delivering the negativity move onto something else a few Tweets later.

Saraya would say of this experience:

“I didn’t think (the promo) was that terrible, I didn’t think I did that awful a job, I stumbled on some words, I was just getting into the swing of things, I let nerves get the better of me and that’s on me.

“But, at one point, I was ‘did I make a mistake?’ and it broke me for a second.”

Saraya pushed through the hate, though, reflecting:

“I was like ‘no’.

“I need another opportunity to do a promo.

“I need it.

“I know I can get them back.

“We did the promo with Britt and it was so well received and people loved it.

“Although, I did get Tokyo Dome and Sumo Hall mixed up. Sorry!”

Since the promo, Saraya medically cleared to return to wrestling, having her first match back in almost five years, facing Britt Baker at AEW Full Gear.
