Satnam Singh Explains Why He Chose To Join AEW Over WWE AEW

Satnam Singh has recalled his tryouts with WWE, explaining why he chose to join AEW instead.

Singh made a surprise appearance on last week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, attacking Samoa Joe, and aligning himself with Jay Lethal & Sonjay Dutt. The former NBA name had signed with AEW in September 2021.

Prior to this, Singh had worked out at the WWE Performance Center in 2017. Speaking with Ruby Arora, Singh noted that he chose AEW because it gave him more opportunities to make history.

Singh said:

“I had trials for WWE as well and I liked it very much. I liked AEW as well. AEW is brand new, it’s only been a couple of years, right? And it’s really fire. I thought that if I go to AEW, I would be the first again. The first wrestler from India. I will make another history for India in AEW.

“If I go to WWE, that would be amazing but amazing why? Because they already have Indian people over there, they have Indian wrestler. Why don’t I go start there where there are no Indian guys and create history again after reaching there? Not for me, for the Indian wrestlers. For everyone.”

Singh’s debut was criticised by fans for not delivering on expectations, especially after lights cut out before revealing the new star, a production technique that AEW has previously used when introducing a recognisable face to the roster.

Tony Khan has since commented on the fan reaction to the segment, which you can read more about right here.
