WWE made numerous backstage releases from the Performance Center today (January 5), with key names like William Regal and Road Dogg being released from the company.
Fightful Select (subscription required) has provided more update on the releases and why they happened. One other name released was former referee Scott Armstrong, who was working in a backstage role.
Armstrong had been working in timing out the shows, as well as overseeing a lot of the NXT refereeing staff. It was also noted that Armstrong shouldered the blame for the direction that led to awkward referee spots during the Becky Lynch vs Liv Morgan match at WWE Day 1.
Fightful notes that this wasn’t why he was let go from the company, and that at least one promotion has already expressed interest in booking Armstrong as a wrestler.
Armstrong’s release was due to WWE ‘directly’ removing a lot of Triple H hires from NXT.
