Details have emerged on scrapped plans for Edge’s WWE return, ahead of this weekend’s Royal Rumble show.
Despite previous reports stating that there were plans for Edge to wrestle at the January 28 premium live event, the Rated R Superstar hasn’t been announced for the show at the time of writing.
WrestlingNews.co previously reported that Edge and Finn Balor were set to compete in a Hell in a Cell bout at the upcoming event.
In a follow-up, WrestlingNews.co has confirmed that plans for this match have been scrapped, so we won’t see this match set up on SmackDown ahead of Royal Rumble.
The report noted that it’s currently unclear why the bout was scrapped, however a source has stated that there were also plans discussed surrounding Beth Phoenix’ return.
A previous report from Fightful noted that an Edge & Beth Phoenix vs Judgment Day bout was pencilled in for Elimination Chamber in February.
Fightful also previously noted that there were several changes made to this year’s Royal Rumble event.
WWE is reportedly happy about surprises planned for the January 28 show, per WrestleVotes on Twitter.
Edge last wrestled for WWE at Extreme Rules in October, losing to Finn Balor in an I Quit bout.
