A new interview has revealed scrapped major AEW plans for The Elite.
In October 2021, Bobby Fish came into All Elite Wrestling and quickly became aligned with his former Undisputed Era stablemate Adam Cole.
Then shortly thereafter, the duo were joined by Kyle O’Reilly in the company after he left WWE NXT when his contract expired.
With three out of four members of the dominant faction in AEW, many fans assumed a future rivalry between the former Undisputed Era and The Elite’s Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks would happen. However, Fish wound up departing AEW following the expiration of his contract in August 2022.
In a new interview with Tru Heel Heat Wrestling, Fish was asked if there were ever any plans for a feud with The Elite scheduled before his departure. He answered:
“Yeah the plans were always something between the group of us, some version of Adam, me, Kyle, Roddy if he ever became available and then there was Matt and Nick who we already knew we had such chemistry with, and Kenny.”
“And Kenny and Adam are great foils for each other and like there was just, you know, the things that made sense. They made sense and I think everybody even without talking about it knew kind of where we were headed.”
“Tony books the show and I’m sure he had that long term as well. I believe he did, I can’t speak for the man.”
“But things happen, variables get in the way and sometimes, you know, I mean pro wrestling sometimes things don’t work out the way you plan and a booker has to roll with those punches especially.”
“So we got close to some stuff and then we were still waiting on things and then injuries and then other things.”
The Elite are currently embroiled in a heated rivalry with another stable in the Blackpool Combat Club. The two factions battled in Anarchy In The Arena 2 at AEW Double Or Nothing where the BCC came out victorious.
Meanwhile, Fish’s Undisputed Era stablemates are now all signed to All Elite Wrestling after Roderick Strong arrived in the promotion in April to align with Adam Cole. Kyle O’Reilly is currently out, recovering from a neck surgery.
