Original plans for the Nexus’ run in WWE that were ultimately scrapped have now been revealed by a former member.
The Nexus took WWE television by storm in the Summer of 2010, with the group of NXT rookies immediately starting an angle with the company’s top stars.
The group eventually ended up fizzling out, and one of the members of the group has now opened up on potential original plans for the group.
Speaking in a new YouTube video, David Otunga noted that, while he was not specifically told long-term plans for the group, it was alluded to him that it would eventually lead to a singles match between he and Wade Barrett, with Otunga leading the group after kicking Barrett out.
He said:
“At the time we hadn’t been specifically what the long-term plan was for Nexus, but we were told broad strokes, that basically this was going to build all of us into major superstars going forward.
“It was alluded to that eventually, Wade and I were going to fight over the group, and I was going to kick Wade out of the group and lead Nexus, but what it was building to was Wade and I, one-on-one, because it was gonna circle back to the finale of NXT where he beat me and I was runner up, though we never had a singles match, so this was gonna be where I was able to get my revenge, or at least we were gonna have a one-on-one standoff.
“So we didn’t know when that was gonna happen, but it was indicated to me that was eventually where the story was going.”
