Scrapped Pitch For Cody Rhodes Heel Faction

Scrapped Pitch For Cody Rhodes Heel Faction AEW

Dax Harwood of FTR has revealed a scrapped pitch for a heel faction featuring Cody Rhodes, while the former AEW EVP was still with the promotion.

Harwood and Cash Wheeler notably formed an alliance with MJF, Wardlow and Shawn Spears in March 2021, when MJF turned on the Inner Circle to form the Pinnacle stable.

Speaking on his FTR podcast,  Harwood noted that prior to the Pinnacle, he made a pitch for a ‘super-group’ with FTR, Cody Rhodes and Brock Anderson, with Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard acting as managers.

Explaining why AEW didn’t move forward with the idea, Harwood said:

“We did talk to Cody a lot about forming a group with him. This was before Max [MJF] came along. We talked to Cody a lot about it.

“He had Arn, we had Tully, we wanted to create a super group with Cody, us two [FTR], and we had some ideas of who could be the other members.

“Around that time, Brock (Anderson) was starting to come up, and we felt that if Brock were with us, he could stand outside of the ring and watch us, and if we had eight-man tags, he would be able to learn by standing on the apron, getting in for a few minutes and tagging out, and we could talk to him after and tell him why certain things happened.

“I think Cody really wanted to as well, but I think he was vehemently against being a heel, at least at that time.”

Cody Rhodes left AEW in February 2022, before making his WWE return at WrestleMania 38 that April.

At WrestleMania 39, Rhodes will challenge for Roman Reigns’ WWE Undisputed Universal Championship.
