Scrapped Plans For Luke Harper To Feud With Top WWE Star Revealed

Just a few weeks ago, Luke Harper publically announced on Twitter that he had requested his WWE release. However, it has since been reported that WWE has no intention of letting the former Intercontinental Champion leave after reported interest from AEW. It is expected that Harper will have to sit out the remainder of his contract.

Harper made his return to the TV at WrestleMania 35 after missing nearly eight months of action with a wrist injury, he would follow this up with a win over NXT’s Dominik Dijakovic at the Worlds Collide WWE Network special.

It has recently been reported by Dave Meltzer on the Wrestling Observer Radio that WWE had big plans for Harper’s return to the ring. At a stage, WWE wanted the former Wyatt Family member to return to the ring and begin a storyline with former NXT Champion Sami Zayn. However, Meltzer notes that these plans have now been scrapped. It is not known if the plans were altered as a result of Harper’s release request, or just because the company decided to take a different route.

It was also reported this week that the former Smackdown Tag Team Champion will not be able to leave the company until after WrestleMania 36 in 2020. Although his contract was set to end in November 2019, WWE decided to add another six months to Harper’s contract to make up for the fact he was on the sidelines for half a year after wrist surgery.

At this time, it is unknown is WWE have any intention of bringing Harper back to TV.
