A former WWE star has confirmed scrapped plans the company had to introduce a new championship title several years ago.
WWE revived it’s Cruiserweight division back in 2016 following the Cruiserweight Classic Tournament, with the new Cruiserweight Championship being introduced to the winner of the tournament.
The division would be integrated into Raw shortly after the 2016 brand split, before eventually moving over to 205 Live full-time, and later NXT, before the title was retired in January 2022.
During 205 Live’s run, the division solely fought for the Cruiserweight Championship, despite a number of alliances forming on the show, leading to some speculation about a potential Tag Team Championship being introduced to the division.
Taking to Twitter, former WWE star Ariya Daivari was reflecting on his time on 205 Live, when one fan had noted that Lince Dorado had previously spoken about a Cruiserweight Tag Team Championship being introduced.
Daivari confirmed that the titles were indeed set to be introduced, noting that he had physically held one of them.
He said:
Yeah I litterally held one of em. Idk why they didn’t use them
Daivari currently works for AEW, where he primarily competes as part of the ROH brand.
