A scrapped nickname that Rhea Ripley pitched to use in the company has been revealed, with her noting she was told they ‘couldn’t do it’.
Rhea Ripley began her rise to stardom when she turned heel to join the Judgment Day back in 2022, initially joining the group alongside Edge and Damian Priest.
However, Edge was eventually removed from the group, with Finn Balor joining in his place, before Dominik Mysterio would later also join in September 2022.
Dominik would go on to form a relationship with Rhea, with Rhea’s ‘Mami’ nickname beginning due to her relationship with Dominik, before growing into what it is today.
However, Mami wasn’t the initial nickname that Rhea wanted to use, as she revealed to Chris Van Vliet on Insight that she initially wanted to us ‘Papi’ as her nickname instead, but the company didn’t allow her to.
She said:
“No, I was trying to push the Papi agenda. And they were like yeah, we can’t do that. And then Priest was like, ‘What about Mami?’ I was like, Okay, guess I’ll be Mami. I was really set on the Papi thing. I was like, I can be a little sh*t stirrer, just be Papi this, Papi that. But they’re like, we just can’t go there. And I was like, Okay, I respect that. Mami’s gonna grow on me, though.”
Rhea also revealed that she has recently been working through a lower back injury.
