Scrapped UFC plans for WWE NXT Battleground have now been revealed courtesy of a new report.

Following the TNA crossover appearances of Knockouts Champion Jordynne Grace and the WWE debut of former AEW star Ethan Page, anticipation for this Sunday’s Battleground Premium Live Event (June 9) is very high.

While much of the intrigue is of course on the matches featured, one other special aspect of the event will be the venue its being hosted in – the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, NV.

The Apex typically hosts smaller UFC events such as UFC Fight Nights, Battleground will mark the first time that the venue will host WWE, posing many logistical questions as to how everything will be laid out.

While that remains to be seen, a new report has revealed that there was at one time a pitch for Battleground to feature a very interesting piece of the UFC experience – the Octagon ring itself.

According to Fightful Select the UFC Octagon was pitched for use at Battleground, however, WWE sources in production told Fightful this would cause “logistical issues”, leading to the idea not coming to fruition.

The presumed main event for WWE NXT Battleground was made official on Tuesday’s NXT (June 4) as the newly debuting Ethan Page takes on Trick Williams for the NXT Championship.
